Stanmore Medical Group Counselling and Mental Health Clinic

To attend a meeting with the Counsellor you will need to be referred by a doctor. Once you have been referred to the Stevenage & North Herts Counselling Centre you will be given 6 sessions of funded counselling.
Upon receipt of a referral the centre will send you some forms to complete, asking for contact details and availability.
Once you have returned your forms to the centre, you will receive an appointment to see a counsellor within 7-21 days.
If you do not receive a letter from us within 14 days please be sure to call the centre or send an email.

Stanmore Health Centre holds family planning clinics for free, confidential advice and information about contraception and sexual health on a Wednesday afternoon by appointment. At all of our surgeries, for repeat pill prescriptions you can also see a doctor in normal surgery and the nurses will do contraceptive advice and fitting in their general surgeries. Stanmore Medical Group Chlamydia Screening

Chlamydia screening is available from the surgery. If you are under 25, simply ask at reception for a kit. It is a completely confidential service where you can send a urine sample in the envelope provided and receive the results easily. This is available for men and women. An annual test is recommended and when you have a new sexual partner.
If you are 25 or over you will need to see one of the nurses for the test, again available for men and women. Contact reception on 01438 313223

Nurse-led Minor Illness Clinic

If your injuries or illness are more minor, you can use our nurse-led services.
Trained and experienced nurses are available in our team to treat a wide range of minor illnesses and injuries. Please call the surgery to make an appointment with the nurse.

Non-NHS Services

Other services which are considered as a private matter and are not to do with the NHS, and therefore chargeable; are forms that the doctor needs to complete for insurance purposes, mortgage purposes or other cases of a similar nature.

There is a list of the private fees in both surgeries for your information. Do please ask about the fees as often people are taken aback when charged. Ask Reception a Question

COPD Clinic

We like to see all our patients who have been diagnosed with COPD at least yearly. Depending on the severity of your diagnosis we may invite you to come to the clinic more often in order to ensure we give you the care you require.

Coronary Heart Disease

We offer an annual appointment to patients with established heart disease.
At the clinic we will review risk factors, discuss lifestyle changes, review medications and arm you with the knowledge you need to manage your condition. Make an appoinment

Diabetes Clinic

We have dedicated clinics for diabetes at the Health Centre and Poplars surgery, and we write to remind all our patients once a year that we need to see them.
We refer patients to the dietician, chiropodist and the community education programme (DESMOND) as necessary. Make an appointment

Cervical Smear Tests

The practice nurses provide a cervical cancer screening service. You will be sent a letter when your smear is due and a leaflet explaining what will happen at the appointment. If you have symptoms that concern you, please make an appointment with the doctor. Make an appointment

We have a Phlebotomy Service (Blood Taking Service) at the Health Centre and Poplars Surgery. Find out more

NHS Home Eye Testing Service

If you are housebound the NHS offers free sight tests (aged 60 & over) and free spectacles (if eligible). The UK registered Optometrists check for Glaucoma, Diabetes, Cataract and other eye conditions. Appointments are available Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm.

Certain small surgical operations can be performed at the surgery. With minor surgery the recovery time is usually short and you will be back to your usual activities fairly quickly (depending on your procedure).
